The Maldives is regarded as having some of the best dive sites anywhere in the world and nearly 65% of all visitors to the Maldives undertake some diving. Serious divers opt for a Diving Safari, which may be combined with a resort stay of your choice.
The “Thila” or circular reefs, enclosing a shallow lagoon, boast some wonderful dive spots. But the most famous dive spots in the Maldives which include 'Maayaa Thila', 'Mushimasmigili Thila', 'Nassimo Thila', 'Kuda Thila', 'Kandooma Thila', 'Fulidhoo Caves', 'Kudarah Thila', and 'Fotteyo', are found scattered amongst the various Atolls making up the tourist zone of the country. And you can only experience these great sites on a Diving Safari.

It is our goal to show you the most beautiful dive sites of the Maldives. To do that, we need to take seasonal conditions, available time and weather forecasts into account. Please trust our experienced crew to choose the best possible route and to maximize the liveaboard’s advantage of mobility in every situation. Fixed routes would mean to ignore the insider knowledge offered by our crews. At the beginning of every safari a rough route will be announced, followed by daily, more detailed briefings about the next day’s route. Before every dive you will be thoroughly briefed and shown a map of the dive spot.

Guided Divers: Yes

Important Information for our guests:
    * Please bring your log book and diving certification card
    * Medical check is recommended but not obligatory
    * The first dive is a check dive at same time - obligatory for all divers.
    * Dives are guided by dive guide
    * Padi courses available (please announce in advance)
    * Equipment and compressor stay on the Dhoni throughout the safari. That means there is no carrying heavy equipment and no compressor noise on the mother ship. First aid box and oxygen are onboard.
    * Dives are performed according Maldivian law and Padi standards - no decompression dives, buddy system, maximum depth is 100 Feet for AOWD or equivalent, for OWD or equivalent certified divers 59 Feet maximum (according Maldivian diving regulation).
    * last dive 24h before flight back
    * use of diving computer/person is obligatory
    * English is board language

Required diving certification/skills
you need at least a Padi Open Water Diver or an equivalent certificate to join one of our diving cruises. This basic certificate allows you to dive to a maximum of 59 Feet.

In order to be well-prepared for the challenging diving conditions in the Maldives and to be able to dive below 59 Feet (where many of the highlights are) we recommend doing the Padi Advanced Open Water or an equivalent certificate before or during your cruise.
Divers who have not dived in a while can do a Padi Scuba Review course to refresh their diving skills.

During the check dive, the dive guide will evaluate the skill levels of all divers. The diving conditions in the Maldives are challenging and if the dive guide or a guest feel that it is necessary, guided dives for individuals can be arranged for USD 10 per dive. Guided dives provide an opportunity to get used to diving in strong currents, entering and exiting the water from a dive tender (Dhoni) and doing fast descents under the supervision of an experienced dive master. We recommend guided dives to all divers with little open sea, current and liveaboard diving experience. In most cases, diver(s) only need a couple of guided dives at the beginning before diving with the group for the rest of their stay.

Dhoni
All dives are done from an extra diving boat (58 Feet). Equipment and compressor stay on the Dhoni throughout the safari. That means there is no carrying heavy equipment and no compressor noise on the mother ship. First aid box and oxygen are onboard.

Diving Equipment
Extra diving boat, 12lt Aluminium cylinders with DIN/INT valves, security buoy and lead In case you wish to rent diving equipment - Please pre-order rental equipment!

Diving Routes
We follow certain routes which turned out to be the best in our experience. This route however is not completely fixed, the details depend an weather and currents.
Therefore are the cruises if you come as repeater never the same. Currents control the choice of the dive site by 100%. You may have noticed, the dive on the very same spot is at on time great, at the other time mediocre. This is not luck or tough-luck as many people believe. It is the current only.
At certain currents one spot can be dived, at other currents it is a vast of time. Sharks, whale sharks, mantas are encountered at a certain current at the specific dive site only. To know the point is only half the story, to know the right time makes a great dive. We know both in perfection.

One week cruises
The best atoll for a one week cruise is definitely the Ari Atoll. We find there all you want to see. During the cruise we round all the atoll but have-depending on weather and season- preferences for the west-or the east side.
One side of the atoll is always protected. Even in bad weather you find calm waters there.

Two week cruises

There are two choices:
1.We go down South Male continuing to Waav Atoll (Felidu), crossing to southern Ari, moving up to north Ari and Back to Male. Even at unfavorable weather conditions a safe cruise since not much crossing between the atolls is required.
2. We move up North Male Atoll, cross to Baa Atoll and continue up into southern Raa Atoll. From there we cross to Lhaviayani Atoll and back south to Male. This route is advised at normal weather-conditions only, since there are open seas to be crossed.

Note: If you request as full charter a special route or atoll- we can do so, just contact us.

WHALE WATCHING
Whales we encounter a couple of miles outside the atolls.
We stay the night in the atoll and move in daytime along the atoll chain up to the north and on the other atoll side back again. On the way we have "hotspots" only known to us. A whale watching trip covers large distances, the water will be more rough than within the atolls.

The Maldives offers unspoiled beaches and cristal clear waters, perfect for Surfing. Male alone offers more than twelve Surfspots, all of which are best accessed by boat.

North and South Male Atolls
The Best Months are from March to mid November (tail end of the north east monsoon through to the end of the south west monsoon).

The Captain of the boat knows where all of the best Surfspots are located, so all you have to do is tell him which one you want to go to.

The most famous spots in the Male Atolls are:
- Chickens: Very long left.
- Cokes: Powerful short right. Breaks off the island where Coca cola is produced.
- Lohis: Great long left that handles size. Infront of our Resort. Check:
- Pasta Point: Private Wave for the people in that resort. Not fair! Although the wave doesnt look that good anyways! The clients all get out and surf other waves.
- Sultans: Very long right.
- Jails: Nice long right hander infront of the jail.

Huvadhoo Atolls (South of Maldives)
Huvadhoo, the biggest atoll, provides without a doubt the best waves in the Maldives, and it also picks up swell all year long, although it is at its most consistent in January and March, where you will most likely catch waves from 8-10 feet, and sometimes 12!!

Huvadhoo is at its best from December - March, during the North East Monsoon.

Visiting Huvadhoo will most likely be worth the trip as you will have a chance to discover yet to be Surfed new spots!!

Whether you are looking for an active sports holiday or a chilled-out sun-bathing vacation – Cobia and its crew will fulfill your every wish.On black Pearl we intend to maintain the same high standard of services as on our other boats. The comfort of our guests is of utmost importance to us.
